Eliza and I attended a "Wing Stand Up" in July with the base commander to receive a trophy for a piano-violin duet we played in the base talent show last October. We won the "Parent and Youth" category for Travis AFB, then the DVD's from all participating bases worldwide were judged and we were picked as first place overall! Eliza has always been lucky about winning things. (The year before, she won second place overall for the teen group instrumental trophy, with Madison.) Here favorite part of these talent shows is the cash prizes. She also enters writing contests in our local paper and has won the Best Senior in Vacaville Essay 2 years in a row now, nominating her English teacher last year and her Young Women's teacher this year. Her best income comes from prizes... which is WAY more fun than working in the yard!

Eliza had been out til 3 a.m. the night before (at the HP movie premiere) so she wasn't too thrilled to get up for this.

We were invited to perform our song at the Tops in Blue concert when the Tops in Blue performing group performs at Travis AFB. Neither of us wants to do it. (She doesn't want the glory; she only wants the cash.)
