Isaac's graduation from high school

Our friends from California sent Isaac this lei to wear to graduation. He wore it when he went to line up, but he wasn't allowed to wear it in the ceremony, so he let his friend hold it for him. Then he couldn't find his friend afterward. Other friends gave him a lei made of candy, after graduation.

We were in a huge college stadium downtown (University of Texas)

Isaac's gold cord is for Distinguished Achievement, and the red cord is for High Honors (top 10% of his class). Madi and Isaac

Grandma Shirley flew out from Utah for the occasion

We must be OLD if we have a high school graduate!!

Isaac wanted a big Texas steak meal after graduation was over

Yum! Even our vegetarians loved eating here (bread, salad and potatoes were awesome, say Madi and Eliza).

And to top it all off, we stopped at frozen yogurt on the way home. That evening, Isaac wanted to go shopping for college clothes. He wanted Lyrad and Grandma to take him. He said Grandma could show him what was in style in Utah. I said, "Well, for the over-60 crowd, maybe," and Isaac replied, "But the key to getting a girl is to impress her parents." (and grandparents?) Rachel went with them, too, and they came home with lots of college clothes! That evening since it was our first official day of summer break, Madi and I went and played tennis (she creamed me, but it was a good workout), Eliza played tennis with a friend then went jogging while Josh rode his bike alongside her, then we came home and they listened to Grandma's stories -- she never runs out of entertaining stories about her other grandchildren, or when Lyrad was a little boy, or any other possible topic. Isaac didn't go to the expensive all-night grad night sponsored by the school; he and 4 friends did a cheaper option and got a little more sleep: they went swimming, then played frisbee at the park in the dark, then watched a movie in someone's backyard.

Here's Isaac walking across the stage, one of 643 graduates. Drowned out by the cheering is "Isaac Rogers Riley, DAP Scholar with high honors." (DAP means Distinguished Academic Plan)
