Watching the bats come out at night
In downtown Austin, at one of the biggest tourist attractions here: the world's largest urban bat colony. Over a million bats live under this downtown bridge, and every night during the summer they come out at dusk to eat millions of bugs. So we joined the crowds (and bat boat tours and kayaks on the river) waiting for the bats to emerge. I have to admit that it wasn't as impressive as the videos we'd watched of it on Youtube, because the bats were hard to see against the dark background. But it was fun to try it out!
Eliza and Madi brought along their friend Katie. Isaac was at work so he missed it this time.
To see the bats in flight, search "Austin bat colony" or "Congress avenue bats" or click on this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPM54d2unx4&feature=related
