We tried to let everyone have a say in what we did over spring break... some requests were easy, like hiking, eating out, going to a movie, going to the beach, staying in a hotel... but others weren't as easy, such as Eliza and Madi's wish to "Go to the One Republic concert." But I took them to the concert in San Antonio and they loved it. I endured it, with my ear plugs in. The music isn't bad, but it was so LOUD. The concert lasted 3 hours (2 lesser-known bands also performed), and I read my book for part of it and fell asleep for part of it.

Eliza and the waiter. We ate dinner at the Riverwalk with Uncle Keyan, who was in San Antonio for work for a few days. Keyan handed me a pair of ear plugs for the concert... what a lifesaver. I had completely forgotten to bring some. This was my first rock concert ever (and hopefully my last).

At the Alamo

Rachel wasn't too thrilled to see the Alamo, even after taking Texas History all year at school. It's hard to believe some of the things she learns here in the south about the Civil War: she says the teacher never mentions that slavery is wrong.

When I was on my mission in Alabama, there were two kinds of people: the ones who didn't know the South had lost the war, and the ones who didn't know the war was even over.
