Making s'mores in the backyard (above) was just one of the many adventures to be had at Grampa Ernie's house in northern CA. As Josh put it, "Grampa Ernie's house is a kid's dream and a mom's nightmare." And I must admit I always breathe a sigh of relief at the end of the day when we are all safe and in one piece. Josh enjoyed climbing trees, riding fast vehicles up and down super steep hills, riding a motorcycle with Grampa on narrow country roads, setting pennies on the railroad tracks and collecting them later when they're flattened, picking wild berries, rafting down the drainage ditch, swimming in the dirty lake, eating dinner on the roof of the woodshed, and collecting railroad spikes. It was all more fun when 4 cousins showed up! Josh got to be an Only Child this week as all 3 sisters were staying with friends, an hour away (where we used to live).
Ben, Sam, and Josh loved riding/driving 4-wheelers, motorcycles, and the lawn mower
Josh had his very own Lazy River to ride down...
Playing in Lake Mariah, near Grampa's house (Lyrad grew up here, playing in this same lake)
Lyrad loved the motorcycles/motorbikes (Grampa has 6) and he took me on a long scary ride. I kept imagining us falling over on the steep gravelly hills, landing on (and smashing) my leg, and then trying to drive from California to Florida in a full leg cast. Though it was a fun day with Grampa Ernie, I definitely felt like the City Mouse visiting the Country Mouse.
Tree climbing fun with Mara, Ben, Sam and Elyse -- they were visiting from Florida, and we will live about a mile away from them when we move to Florida in 2 weeks!
