Josh is also a clown. When we needed to wash his big stuffed bear, he took all the stuffing out of it, washed it all, then he decided he'd like to WEAR the bear skin before re-stuffing it. He put it on, sat on the couch, and scared his 4-year-old cousin when she came over and noticed that the bear was breathing. Then he had fun dancing and entertaining Rachel.
I think some children react to moving by quietly trying to fit in without beng noticed. But others take the opposite approach: like Josh, they want to make a big impression and get attention. This hasn't led to good results in primary sharing time and cub scouts, but thankfully he has a great (male) primary teacher who can handle him, a male school teacher who loves Josh's questions and interest in science, and a male music teacher who just told me he loves Josh and wants to keep him. I guess it's just the women in primary sharing time (and his mother) who just stare at him wondering where all this craziness and sarcasm came from, when he was such a sweet, polite little boy! I think it comes from having 4 teenagers as siblings, and from trying to get attention when moving to yet another new ward. But we're working on it with him and we do appreciate his energy and creativity when it is channelled into good things!
