Lyrad and I dropped the children off at my parents' and went backpacking with his dad in the Sierras (Loch Leven Lakes). We hiked past 3 lakes, stopped and pitched our tent at the 4th lake, swam, read, looked for bears (but only found bear footprints, droppings, and den), cooked noodles over the backpacker stove, watched the sun set, then hiked back out the next day. The mountains were beautiful and we enjoyed our time away from civilization. The children didn't miss us at all as they played chess, played cards, went swimming, and watched old home videos with Grandma and Grandpa.

Alicia, I am impressed. Your backpack looks like it weighs a TON and yet you sport it with such grace. Looks like you had fun. We keep talking about coming down to see you guys and Ernie, but so far its all just talk...we will get there eventually. I am determined :)
