Isaac has accompanied 2 musical numbers in sacrament meeting so far (here he is practicing with the missionaries). He's been paid to accompany a student auditioning for an honor band on saxophone. I think he should get some piano students to teach, especially now that he's not working at the ice cream shop anymore (disappointing, but it may be a blessing because he has more time for other things, such as tutoring math students; 2 people have hired him as a tutor and it's much better pay than at the ice cream shop!). Isaac's piano teacher is fabulous and is really challenging him, and they have monthly Masters Classes in which the teenagers get together and play for each other, then she picks winners. Isaac didn't win for best playing (his friend Julie in our ward won), but he won for best chords/arpeggios (or something like that; the teacher tells them a key signature and they play all sorts of variations of it). So Isaac was proud that our ward won it all! So now he's trying hard to win Best Playing sometime in the future! It's great to see him so motivated and to have friends who are also such good pianists. Isaac joined the after school Piano Club, and they have fun playing for each other and eating snacks. Then when Isaac went into his Physics class after school one day to ask his teacher a question, some kids he knows were there for Science Club and they talked Isaac into staying. He enjoyed that (and the snacks), too. He came home and said with a smile, "Mom, I guess I'm an official Nerd now if I'm in Piano Club and Science Club!" I told him he just needs to find the Chess Club to be official. And he may find it, because he's good at chess too. The nice thing about Texas is that it's not "nerdy" to be smart and high-achieving; everyone's trying hard and doing well!
