4th grade field trips and track & field day

I've enjoyed seeing a lot of Texas sites on field trips with Joshua's class. We've visited the Lyndon B. Johnson pioneer farm (where LBJ's grandparents lived), the LBJ Presidential Library (I loved it -- it was a fascinating museum with great memorabilia and details about the civil rights era and Kenney's assassination), a natural history museum, a Texas History Museum, and Aquarena Springs (pictured above) where we rode in a glass-bottom boat. Josh has not enjoyed having such a heavy homework load in 4th grade, but he has sure learned a LOT -- the children get a fabulous education in Texas with wonderful extracurricular activity options.

Josh enjoyed track and field day. He hates P.E. and says he always comes in last when they run in the heat, but (lucky for him) track and field day was more than just running. He ran in a hurdles race, and because he knew that it didn't matter if he knocked the hurdles over, he just plowed them over (see video below) and proudly won third place!

Josh first pinned on his green participation ribbon, then his white 3rd place ribbon, then he bounced his way across the field on the big bouncy "Hippity Hop" and was thrilled to get a 2nd place ribbon! Next he was in the Big Feet race:

Other boys kept getting tangled up in the ropes of their "big feet" (above), and Josh just went slow and steady the whole time, passing the boys who were getting tangled up in ropes, and he was ecstatic to win a blue ribbon! He never thought he'd win any ribbon, so he was one happy boy!

He had one of every ribbon, with one race left, and he decided it would wreck his "pattern" of ribbons if he earned a duplicate. So he was fine when he did not win a ribbon in the Balloon Race (they carried a balloon down the field, sat on it to pop it, then ran back).

Ready for the balloon race!
