Miss NHS Pagaent

Eliza and Madi had a fun week being involved in the school's Miss NHS Pageant.  Any club can have a representative in the pageant:  Eliza was Miss Cross Country, Madi was Miss Dive Team.  33 girls took part in the festivities, including a talent show, evening gown competition, a "tea" catered by Olive Garden, wearing sashes to school one day, interviews, etc.  My girls assured me they didn't have their heart set on winning, but they were doing it for the experience of wearing a fancy dress, meeting lots of people, etc.  It was impossible to guess who the winner would be, because they were judged on lots of things we "couldn't see", such as GPA's, interviews (held with only the judges), People's Choice (meaning:  who had the most money put into their box, whereafter the money was all donated to a charity).  All 33 girls looked beautiful in their evening gowns, and at least 25 of the talents performed were wonderful.  It was a fun week, and Eliza and Madi are so glad they participated.

I'd never been to a pageant before, but apparently they are really common in the south.  Several girls participate regularly in pageants, and Pageant Consultants are available for hire around here!
The girls all danced to "If you like it then you better put a ring on it"
Josh (shown here with Eliza) was Madi's escort.  It took just a little bribery to talk him into it, at 5 p.m. Friday night after Madi told us calmly that her escort had to work that night, and the pageant began at 6:00.  Josh has this nice tux for his chorus concerts and he has the right personality to be on stage...he's a little ham.
Eliza and Madi's good friend Melody was named Miss NHS.  We were excited for her; she has been in this pageant for 4 straight years and it meant so much to her!  As an Iranian-American, her talent act was speaking in her four languages (Farsi, Turkish, Spanish, and English) while the translation was shown on the screen above her.
