I've enjoyed going on Josh's 4th grade field trips lately. We went to a Texas history museum and saw a movie all about Texas pride (I don't think any other state makes a huge IMAX movie all about their state; Josh is still laughing about this quote in the movie: "81% of people believe in heaven. 98% of Texans believe they're already there."). We saw lots of other artifacts, including a moon rock and part of a control panel from the Houston space center when the moon landing was going on. On another field trip, we went to a nature preserve and enjoyed the presentations. I enjoy watching Josh as he finds his way to the front and center of each presentation, raising his hand to answer and ask questions as if he's the only student there. He really impressed me with his knowledge in a presentation on rocks, then afterward when I commented on how much he knew about rocks, he humbly told me that he was studying the posters around the room as the presenter spoke, and Josh found some answers from those!! Josh loves science and history and learning... but he still doesn't enjoy so much homework and so many hours in a classroom.
